(something profound)

My name is Thomas, I'm in college at the wonderful Hardin-Simmons University in quaint ole Abilene Texas. I grew up in Colorado and am proud to call that home. Jesus is what I want my life to be about. I am definitely a type B personality so I take things as they come and I go through phases. I think we all do really. Hopefully this reflects some of where I'm at right now

You strive, o man, and you strive again, your heart too proud to rest
You labor on, singing those songs, to cover your weakness
Do you fail to recall who you really are and Who caused you to be?
Return o man; return and rest, to a burden light and yoke easy

Abide in your Savior
Abide in His love
The labor of God is to trust in the Son

Thank you, Lord, for your mercy and forgiveness. Help us to hear your word and to follow you today. Numb our ears to the persistent call of idols like vanity, consumerism, power, and pride. Enable us to lead lives tempered by the awareness of others’ needs and propelled by your love. Amen.

Common Prayer

I’ve never experienced so much from a fire, I live in Parker and I feel like we’re pretty safe (I hope) but every direction I turn I can see plumes of smoke from a fire. Tonight I opened up the back door and there was so much smoke we really thought a fire had broken out over the ridge, there was ash and everything. Turns out it was just blown in from one of the other fires but some police officers were even driving through the neighborhood saying we weren’t in harms way. It’s just crazy that our whole state is burning up. It makes me think of an Anne Bradstreet poem I read in American Lit this year. “And, when I could no longer look,

I blest his Name that gave and took,

That layd my goods now in the dust:
Yea so it was, and so ‘twas just.
It was his own: it was not mine;

Far be it that I should repine.”Jesus we bless your name and are thankful for your blessing of nearness to us that no earthly power can take away.

To be loved but not known is comforting but superficial. To be known and not loved is our greatest fear. But to be fully known and truly loved is, well, a lot like being loved by God. It is what we need more than anything. It liberates us from pretense, humbles us out of our self-righteousness, and fortifies us for any difficulty life can throw at us.
